Bihar Election Results 2025: Ex-IPS Anand Mishra leads Buxar seat against Congress
Guwahati: Former IPS officer Anand Mishra is leading in the Buxar assembly constituency with a margin of 14,122 votes over Congress incumbent Sanjay Kumar Tiwari, up by 9,318 from earlier trends.
His debut performance may indicate a change in the state’s political landscape, where the seat has historically been held by Congress.
Mishra, 44, a 2011-batch IPS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, is from Jigna Village in Itarhi Block, Buxar District.
His family home is in Prasaunda Village, Shahpur Block, Bhojpur District. Born on June 1, 1981, to retired engineer Param Hans Mishra and the late Shanti Mishra, he grew up partly in Kolkata, where his father worked at Hindustan Motors, and completed his schooling and college at St. Xavier’s.
During his service, Mishra served as SP in Nagaon and SSP in Lakhimpur and resigned on January 29, 2024, to engage in social work in his home area.
Denied a BJP ticket for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Buxar, he ran as an independent and received nearly 50,000 votes. He later briefly led the youth wing of Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party in early 2025 before joining the BJP in August, rebranding his welfare initiative from “Anand Sewa Kendra” to “Kamal Sewa Kendra.”
Buxar, known for its Mughal-era fort and cultural heritage, has seen close contests: Congress's Sanjay Kumar Tiwari won against BJP's Parshuram Chaubey by 3,892 votes in 2020.
This year, Mishra is competing against multiple candidates, including BSP's Abhimanyu Maurya and Jan Suraaj's Tathagat Harsh Vardhan.
During campaigns, Mishra emphasized administrative experience and anti-corruption measures. Voter turnout was 55% in Phase One and 68% in Phase Two.
Analysts are monitoring Buxar as a key constituency for the BJP’s electoral strategy.
Mishra is married to fashion designer Archana Tiwari. His election affidavit lists assets worth Rs 2.5 crore.
