Bihar CM Nitish Kumar resignation likely on Nov 17
Guwahati: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is expected to tender his resignation to the Governor on Monday (November 17), setting the stage for the formation of a new National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.
As the national president of the JD(U), Kumar has convened a crucial meeting of the party’s Legislative members on the same day.
All NDA allies have also scheduled meetings of their respective Legislative Parties, signalling coordinated preparation for the transition.
After these internal discussions, the alliance will gather for the NDA Legislative Party meeting, where leaders will formally select the new head of the coalition.
Since early morning, the newly elected MLAs have been visiting Kumar at his official residence, holding consultations ahead of the leadership announcement.
RLM chief Upendra Kushwaha and senior BJP leader Nityanand Rai also called on the Chief Minister, reflecting the ongoing negotiations within the alliance.
Sources indicate that early conversations on portfolio distribution have already begun. With the BJP emerging as the largest party in the Assembly, it is expected to claim the biggest share of cabinet positions, followed by JD(U), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
The current government’s term ends on November 22, 2025, leaving the alliance with a narrow window to complete the resignation, government formation, and oath-taking formalities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to be present at the swearing-in ceremony.
