Amul’s iconic tribute to Zubeen Garg stirs emotions across India
Guwahati: In a moment of national cultural remembrance, Amul unveiled a topical on Sunday to pay homage to legendary Indian musician and singer Zubeen Garg, whose sudden demise in Singapore plunged millions into grief.
The dairy giant’s celebrated cartoon campaign, famous for instantly capturing the pulse of India, featured the caption:
“#Amul Topical: Tribute to Indian musician and singer who worked and sang in Assamese, Bengali and Hindi film and music industries. Amul pays tribute to Zubeen Garg.”
Though simple in tone, the tribute sparked massive reactions online.
“Amul’s creativity could have touched upon any of his Assamese gems. This one is not among his top 1000 — probably it was the easiest for a headline,” said writer and commentator Dwaipayan Choudhary, balancing admiration with critique.
Others, however, emphasized Garg’s broader legacy.
“Not only in 3 languages… he sang in almost 40 languages. Anyways, Thank You. Jai Aai Axom,” remarked Nomita Barman, highlighting the truly pan-Indian and multilingual scope of the late maestro’s career.
Fans flooded social media with emotional responses, many echoing the sentiment: “Legend never dies #ZubeenGarg,” as expressed by Girijananda Goswami. Thousands thanked Amul for understanding and reflecting the pain of Assam and India with such a timely, heartfelt gesture. For a state mourning its most iconic cultural voice, this small but powerful recognition served as a balm, a validation that Zubeen Garg’s voice belonged not just to Assam, but to the soul of the nation.
As the post went viral within hours, it once again cemented Amul’s status as India’s “unofficial chronicler of history through butter.” More importantly, it showed how one man’s music, sung in nearly 40 languages and genres, can transcend borders, cultures, and generations.
Even in death, Zubeen Garg continues to unite the nation through song.
