Agartala: The second National Lok Adalat of the year is poised to take place in Tripura this Saturday, aiming to address a substantial backlog of legal cases.

Jhuma Datta Chowdhury, the member secretary of Tripura State Legal Services Authority, announced that over 17,000 cases will be tackled during the event.

Proceedings are set to commence at 10 am not only at the Tripura High Court but also at various district and sub-divisional court premises across the state, including on public holidays.

Chowdhury revealed that 17,938 cases will be presented for resolution, distributed among 42 benches.

These cases encompass a wide array of legal disputes, including pre-litigation disputes, pending court cases, motor accident compensation cases, bank loan repayment cases, arbitrable criminal dispute cases, matrimonial dispute cases, check bounce cases, employment matters, land acquisition cases, with cases designated for the Jatiya Lok Adalat and civil cases.

The Tripura High Court will host a dedicated bench to address 46 cases, while the Agartala court premises will accommodate up to eight benches for Lok Adalat proceedings. Notices have been dispatched to all involved parties to facilitate preparations from both sides ahead of the proceedings.

Chowdhury highlighted proactive engagement from individuals who received notices for the Lok Adalat since May 1.

They have been actively collaborating with the District Legal Service Authority and Sub-Divisional Legal Service Authority offices to prepare for case settlement. Paralegal volunteers will be available to assist individuals summoned to the Lok Adalat, ensuring smoother proceedings.
