Dimapur: The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Nagaland, on Monday issued an apology for a spelling error in the name of the Khiamniungan tribe that appeared in the Nagaland Heritage Studies (Alternative English) Class 8 textbook.

In a letter addressed to the president of the Khiamniungan Students’ Union, Noklak, the SCERT stated that the tribe’s name was incorrectly printed as “Khiamniungam” instead of “Khiamniungan.”

The council acknowledged the mistake and described it as unintentional, despite efforts made during the preparation and review of the textbook.

The SCERT further stated that the textbooks are important learning resources for students and admitted that such errors could create confusion and inconvenience.

The council also assured that corrective measures would be taken to prevent similar mistakes in future publications.

The institution appreciated the observations and feedback provided regarding the error and reiterated its regret over the oversight while seeking cooperation and understanding from the concerned parties.
