Nagaland: Two arrested for kidnapping, extorting businessman in Dimapur

Dimapur: Two persons have been arrested on charges of kidnapping and extorting a businessman in Nagaland, the Dimapur Commissionerate of Police said in a release on Friday.
The release stated that an FIR was lodged at East Police Station by Ruhon Das, a resident of Sematilla, Dimapur, on April 21, alleging that he was followed and wrongfully restrained by two unidentified persons near the Murgipatti area while returning home after closing his shop at Hongkong Market at around 7 pm on April 20.
He was then forcibly taken towards the highway near the Dimapur Municipal Council office by the accused. They also took the victim’s mobile phone and compelled him to disclose his Google Pay password.
Thereafter, the accused took him to an IOC petrol pump located in the Ghorapatti area, from where an amount of Rs 6,000 was withdrawn from the victim’s account.
Subsequently, the victim was taken towards the City Tower area and later released near Vishal Mega Mart, after which the accused fled the scene.
Upon receiving the complaint, personnel from East Police Station launched an investigation and visited the place of occurrence. CCTV footage collected from the IOC petrol pump and other public places captured the movements and identities of the accused.
Based on the available evidence, photographs of the suspects were circulated among all field-level police units for identification and apprehension.
Following this, the first accused, M Stephen Yanthan, was arrested on April 28.
Further investigation and follow-up operations led to the arrest of the second accused, Chumbenthung Yanthan, on May 6.
