Dimapur: The Nagaland Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) said the state will experience cloudy heavy rainfall in almost all the districts till August 29.

In its weather update on Tuesday, the NSDMA said thunderstorms and lightning may accompany these showers at isolated places.

During this period, heavy rainfall is expected in the Chumoukedima, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Niuland, Peren and Wokha districts. The other districts may experience cloudy moderate rain.

The NSDMA urged people to take necessary precautionary measures during this time and exercise caution from lightning strikes and gale winds which may disrupt communication and connectivity.

According to the update, Nagaland's lowland and foothill regions, including Dimapur, Nuiland, Chumukedima, Bhandari, Pangti, Tizit and Tuli, are vulnerable to inundated water logging and flash floods due to the potential of high precipitation in the hill sector.

The NSDMA urged the public to exercise caution to avoid any eventualities during this period.  It also asked all the district disaster management authorities and other line departments to be on alert to save lives and properties during this monsoon period.

It was also reported that some district headquarters, including Kohima and other blocks, may be cut off due to landslides caused by higher volumes of precipitation.

The NSDMA asked the key line departments that are responsible for the maintenance of public infrastructure to be vigilant.
