Dimapur:An Assam Rifles personnel was killed and four others were seriously injured when unidentified miscreants triggered a suspected IED blast near Sukhovi village in Chümoukedima district on Monday.

A civilian also suffered minor injuries to his leg in the explosion, which occurred at around 2 pm.

According to eyewitnesses, the blast originated from an autorickshaw when the Assam Rifles vehicles were passing through the area. The three-wheeler was completely damaged in the explosion.

The injured personnel were evacuated to a hospital at 4th Mile in the district.

Police, a forensic team, and officials from the Chümoukedima district administration rushed to the spot after the incident.

Security personnel have launched an operation in the area. Further details are awaited.

Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav expressed profound grief over the tragic loss of the Assam Rifles personnel.

Strongly condemning what he called the “heinous act of violence”, Yadav hoped that the concerned authorities would carry out a thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice.

He reaffirmed his solidarity with the Assam Rifles and all security forces in their unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, security, and stability in the state.

Yadav prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extended his deepest sympathies to the family, colleagues, and loved ones of the deceased.

He also wished the injured personnel a speedy and complete recovery.
