Nagaland: State-level job fair connects vocational students with employers in Kohima
Dimapur: The Samagra Shiksha Nagaland on Friday organised a state-level job fair at T.M. Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima, to empower government school students with employability skills through vocational education.
State Mission Director of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, L. Jamithung Lotha, said in his inaugural speech that the job fair aimed to connect skilled youth with employers, facilitating interaction between the job market and students, and allowing students to assess whether their skills align with industry requirements.
He added that the objective of the job fair was to facilitate job placements, apprenticeships, and internships; provide platforms for employers; strengthen industrial linkages; create awareness of career and security options; conduct on-site interviews, counselling, and information sessions on apprenticeship and entrepreneurship; improve employment pathways for vocational students; build stronger industry-school partnerships; and establish employment facilitation mechanisms for the state to have a long-lasting impact on students.
Lotha also said the department is upskilling students in government schools through training and assessments conducted by the Sector Skills Council.
Joint Mission Director of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, Dr Chumbeni Kikon, said this was the first time Samagra Shiksha Nagaland organised a state-level job fair specifically for vocational students and alumni to provide employment opportunities.
She expressed gratitude to the five vocational training partners and consultants for their support in making the job fair possible.
Kikon highlighted that the job fair also aimed to provide career counselling to students, along with school-level implementation of the ‘My Career Advisor App’, a programme initiated by the Union Ministry of Education.
Employers participating in the job fair included Mevi Enterprise, Ilandlo Services Pvt. Ltd, Local Colour Nagaland, Café Eva, Talent Acquaintance, Hotel Polo Towers, Symbios Group, Vuto Hyundai, Matrix Enterprise, Fashion TV, The Green Caravan, The Baker’s Oven, New Gold Star Tyres, and YouthNet.
