Guwahati: The Union Territory of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) has imposed a closure of all nightclubs, pubs and discos in Dimapur with immediate effect.

The closure was called following numerous public complaints and concerns from civil society organisations, reports said.

The NSCN-IM, which governs its own territory within Dimapur, is targeting late-night operations and alleged "immoral activities" linked to these establishments.

In a statement, Solomon Sumi, Secretary of the UT NSCN (IM), cited reports of "underage girls seen late at night in unusual circumstances" and allegations of "various immoral activities involving married men and non-local businessmen for cash."

The NSCN-IM highlighted a growing number of complaints regarding these venues staying open until the early morning hours.

They said that these concerns must be taken seriously while aiming to curb such activities.

The ban extends beyond nightclubs.

The NSCN-IM UT office also issued a strong warning against drug peddling and the distribution of banned substances within its jurisdiction. Sumi expressed concern about a rise in drug use among young people, attributing it to the easy availability of drugs.

NSCN-IM officials said that it would take strict action against anyone caught selling drugs or banned substances.

Furthermore, the UT office has directed its staff to report any evidence of immoral activities within its territory.
