Dimapur: Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir on Tuesday urged the Centre to strengthen infrastructure and academic facilities at the College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry in Jalukie, Peren, a constituent college of the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.

Raising the issue in Parliament, Jamir appealed to the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying to sanction key infrastructure projects for the institution, citing the growing importance of veterinary education, animal health management and livestock development.

He proposed the construction of a veterinary clinical complex, upgradation of veterinary laboratory diagnostic (VLD) facilities for efficient animal disease diagnosis, and the introduction of veterinary telemedicine and mobile animal health services to improve outreach and service delivery.

Jamir said the proposed projects would improve veterinary education, strengthen animal healthcare services and enhance capacity building in the livestock sector.

He noted that the college attracts students from across the country and said the infrastructure upgrades would benefit them while helping the institution emerge as a leading veterinary college.

The MP urged the ministry to prioritise the proposals, stating that investment in veterinary education is important for improving livestock productivity, ensuring food security and creating employment opportunities in the rural economy.
