Guwahati: The culmination program of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, coinciding with Human Rights Day, was held on December 10 at the DC’s Conference Hall in Nagaland's Meluri.

The District Administration and Sakhi – One Stop Centre, Mission Shakti Meluri organized the event.

A DIPR report stated that SDPO Meluri, T. Desela Sangtam, attending as the guest speaker, highlighted the significance of Human Rights Day.

He stated that without human rights, discrimination prevails, leading to chaos and conflict in society.

Highlighting that human rights are constitutional rights, he explained that they ensure freedom of expression, which is essential for personal growth and development.

Sangtam also urged students to report any abuse to school authorities, the police, or Sakhi – OSC.

Jitsiasa Nyusou, Centre Administrator, briefed attendees about Sakhi – OSC services and emergency helplines 181 and 1089.

Legal case worker Chiekerho Nyusou spoke on gender equality and awareness of “Good Touch & Bad Touch” under the POCSO Act, 2012.

The SDPO also led participants in taking a pledge against child marriage.

The program began with an invocation by Rev. Fr. Peter Pehiachanglu, assistant principal of St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, Meluri. Students from Government Higher Secondary School Meluri, St. Xavier Higher Secondary School Meluri, S. Pethüry School Meluri, Christian Mission Higher Secondary School Meluri, and teacher representatives attended the event.

The closing remarks were delivered by Rhothovi Nyusou, office assistant at Sakhi – OSC, Meluri, and the program was chaired by Lozüvi, case worker, OSC, Mission Shakti Meluri.
