Nagaland government plans old-age homes in every district
Dimapur: The Nagaland government is planning to establish one old-age home in every district of the state, said Wangpang Konyak, adviser to the Social Welfare Department, on Thursday.
Konyak said this while gracing an eye camp for senior citizens at District Hospital in Mon, as the chief guest.
The camp was jointly organized by the Social Welfare Department and Mercy Eye Centre, Dimapur, with support from the District Hospital, Mon.
At the event, Konyak highlighted government schemes for senior citizens, including old-age pensions, the elderly helpline, and charity care for older adults in the state. He encouraged them to follow medical advice carefully to maintain good health and recover quickly from any ailments.
Konyak expressed his gratitude to Mercy Eye Centre, Chingkup Konyak and their team, the District Hospital, Mon, and the Deputy Commissioner of Mon for their cooperation in organizing the camp.
Describing it as a privilege to participate in the eye-restoration program, he said it reminded everyone that senior citizens are not left behind.
He added that the Social Welfare Department is committed to supporting vulnerable groups through social assistance, nutrition programs, and protection for those at risk, including older adults.
Mon Deputy Commissioner Wennyei Konyak noted that lack of awareness and facilities can lead to vision problems and urged attendees to get timely check-ups to ensure a healthy and comfortable life.
