Dimapur: The Nagaland government accorded a state funeral to the adviser of information & public relations and soil & water conservation and five-time MLA Imokong L Imchen, who passed away on Tuesday, at his official residence in Kohima on Wednesday.

Scores of leaders of various political parties, colleagues, student bodies, and well-wishers gathered at his residence to pay their final respects to the veteran politician, remembering him as a statesman of integrity, vision, and deep commitment to the welfare of the Naga people.

In his message, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio described Imchen as a man of a clear mind, trustworthy, upright, and a seasoned politician, who was never afraid to speak out his mind.

Rio said his involvement in the public platform began much before he entered into politics because of his conviction and determination to be a public servant, adding he was actively involved in student bodies at a very young age before actively participating in state politics.

Rio recalled how he worked with Imchen for decades in the service of the people, and how his trust in him was built over the years of their association.

He added that despite political instability, Imchen was a survivor and ably handled the crisis in the state politics irrespective of ups and downs in the affairs of the government.

Rio said the legacy and good deeds left by him will always be cherished.

Nagaland assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer described Imchen as a man of few words but immense depth, known for his strong vocabulary, mature reasoning, and unwavering dedication to the service of the people.

Tourism and higher education minister Temjen Imna Along said Imchen was a leader who devoted his whole life to public service.

Chief secretary Sentiyanger Imchen, who spoke on behalf of the state government, said Imchen displayed remarkable leadership qualities and a strong sense of public duty.
