Nagaland: Five, including owner, arrested over death of man at rehab centre
Dimapur: Five persons have been arrested in connection with the death of an individual at a rehabilitation centre in Nagaland's Chümoukedima district on November 26, the Dimapur commissionerate of police said in a release.
Four persons, identified as directly involved in the incident, along with the owner of the rehabilitation centre, have been arrested and are now in police custody.
Taking suo motu cognisance of the grave incident at the Yeshu Arms Wellness Foundation rehabilitation centre in Chekiye village, Block-6, Dimapur police registered an FIR at Diphuhar PS and launched a detailed investigation, the release said.
Police said that around 3 pm on November 26, Diphuhar PS received a telephonic report from Referral Hospital regarding a dead body that had been brought from the rehab centre.
Acting promptly, the police team proceeded to the hospital for verification, where the doctor on duty confirmed that the individual had been brought in dead.
The deceased was identified as Pradeep Basumatary (46), son of Lombuthor Basumatary, a resident of Uriamghat under Golaghat district of Assam.
Police said a preliminary examination revealed visible marks of physical assault on the body, including multiple bruises on both lower limbs and buttocks, as well as injury marks on the legs, left cheek, and left hand.
The release stated that these injuries are suspected to have been caused by blunt objects, raising suspicion that the deceased was physically assaulted, resulting in his death.
The body has been shifted to Dimapur District Hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The Dimapur police said they are investigating the case thoroughly and that all necessary forensic, technical, and procedural steps are being meticulously documented to ensure those responsible are brought to justice without delay.
