Nagaland: ENPO urges swift action on FNT issue as Lok Sabha elections boycott looms
KOHIMA: The Eastern Nagaland People's Organization (ENPO) expressed concern over the delay in finalizing the Framework Agreement on the Frontier Nagaland Issue (FNT).
The ENPO noted that despite the ministry of home affairs (MHA) presenting the draft MoS for FNT to the Nagaland government in December 2023, feedback was not provided to the central government as of the set deadline of December 31, 2023.
This delay, despite commitments to resolve the FNT before the election model code of conduct (MCC), has led to a setback, preventing its realization before the Lok Sabha 2024 elections.
Consequently, the ENPO stated, the public of Eastern Nagaland has decided to abstain from participating in the elections, attributing this directly to the state government's failure to submit feedback.
The ENPO emphasized the urgency of resolving the FNT issue, urging both the Nagaland government and the central government to expedite the process and prioritize the aspirations of the Eastern Nagaland people.
