Nagaland braces for continued heavy rainfall & storms
KOHIMA: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) issued an advisory, forecasting continued heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph), and other pre-Monsoon activities in the state in the upcoming days.
In coordination with the India Meteorological Department, Regional Office Guwahati, the NSDMA conveyed that the rainfall would coincide with lightning, hailstorms, thunderstorms, and squally winds, persisting until April 16.
The advisory highlighted that heavy rainfall, along with strong winds and lightning, is anticipated in isolated areas across various districts of Nagaland, including Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, Phek, Wokha, Zunheboto, Kiphire, Mokokchung, Shamator, Tseminyu, and Tuensang.
During this period, the NSDMA indicated that the maximum temperature would hover around 31°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to drop, particularly below 11°C in hilly regions.
Given the forecast, the NSDMA urged the public to exercise caution to prevent any potential disasters during this weather scenario. Additionally, it called upon all district disaster management authorities in Nagaland and other relevant departments to remain vigilant to safeguard lives and properties.
The NSDMA cautioned that adverse weather conditions could lead to poor visibility, traffic congestion, partial damage to makeshift houses and huts, crop damage, among other repercussions.
Consequently, it advised the general public to seek appropriate shelter during thunderstorms and lightning activities, reinforce vegetable pandals, refrain from agricultural work, cattle grazing, fishing, boat navigation, or unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.
