Nagaland Congress condemns death threat against Rahul Gandhi, demands action
Dimapur: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed deep concern and outrage over a recent death threat issued against Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi during a televised debate.
The NPCC media cell stated in a release, “We find such an explicit threat to the life of a senior national leader unacceptable in a democracy, and authorities must treat it with the utmost seriousness.”
It emphasized that the threat, made by a BJP spokesperson from Kerala, cannot be dismissed as casual or emotional rhetoric.
The NPCC called the threat dangerous and deliberate provocation, reflecting a disturbing trend of normalizing threats and violence against political opponents.
The release affirmed that the NPCC stands firmly with the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in demanding that Union Home Minister Amit Shah take immediate and decisive action against the individual responsible.
It warned that failing to act would signal complicity by authorities and encourage similar reckless acts in the future.
“As a nation, we have endured the bitter and devastating consequences of political assassinations,” the NPCC said.
It reminded the public of the tragic losses of leaders such as Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, underscoring why threats to public figures must be addressed with utmost seriousness and urgency.
The NPCC reiterated that political differences must always resolve through dialogue, debate, and democratic means within the framework of the Constitution.
It declared that issuing a death threat openly against the Opposition leader, who represents millions of citizens, amounts to an attack on India’s democracy itself.
The NPCC urged the central government not only to bring the offender to justice but also to set a strong precedent against such barbaric and homicidal mindsets.
Finally, the NPCC called on every citizen, regardless of political affiliation, to condemn this dangerous act and uphold the sanctity of India’s democratic traditions.
