KOHIMA: The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), on Tuesday (March 12), denounced gay marriage and adultery, aligning its stance with the teachings of the Bible.

Dr Zelhou Keyhou, general secretary of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council, emphasized the imperative for clarity and compassion in addressing issues related to the LGBTQ community.

He underscored that while the church opposes the LGBTQ lifestyle, it does not harbour animosity towards individuals grappling with such inclinations.

Keyhou emphasized the principle of “love the person but hate the sin”, asserting that the church's position is rooted in upholding the teachings of the Christian faith.

He clarified that while the church refrains from criminalizing or stigmatizing individuals, it remains steadfast in affirming that the LGBTQ lifestyle contradicts biblical teachings.

Furthermore, Keyhou emphasized the church's obligation to uphold biblical morality, irrespective of societal trends or legislative changes.

He stressed that the church's moral compass is guided by immutable biblical principles rather than shifting cultural norms.

The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) reiterated its commitment to extending compassionate outreach to individuals struggling with their sexual orientation while steadfastly maintaining that homosexual practices are incompatible with biblical teachings.

Keyhou cautioned against diluting biblical morality in response to societal pressures, asserting that the church's fidelity to its principles remains paramount.

He warned against succumbing to secular influences that seek to compromise the church's moral integrity.

In conclusion, the NBCC affirmed its unwavering commitment to embodying God's love and grace while upholding the sanctity of biblical teachings.

The church pledged to extend compassion and understanding to individuals of diverse sexual orientations without endorsing behaviours contrary to biblical precepts.
