Dimapur: The Nagaland government has banned illegal collections of money by unions, NGOs, associations, or any other private and community organisations on state highways, national highways, or marketplaces in the state, an official release said on Tuesday.

It said anyone indulging in any such illegal activities is liable to be prosecuted under Sections 188 and 384 of the IPC.

In an order, the Nagaland home department said the state government issued instructions from time to time to prevent and curb unauthorised collection of money in the form of taxes, membership fees, subscriptions, contributions, donations, charges, levies, tolls, or any other form of collection of money by any organisation on highways and marketplaces.

In this regard, the department referred to order no. CON-l/G/41/2011 dated May 31, 2012, which banned illegal collections of money by unions, NGOs, etc.

It also mentioned a notification no. CON-l/G/41/2011 dated May 19, 2022, which banned the erection and operation of intra-state check gates and any unauthorised collection at inter-state check gates by any association, group, or private individuals.

The department directed the respective district administration and police authorities to strictly enforce the orders.
