Nagaland Assembly committee inspects environmental management at Pfutsero

Dimapur: A six-member Committee on Environment and Climate Change of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly conducted an official site visit to Pfutsero in Phek district on Tuesday to inspect and review matters related to environmental management, developmental activities, and civic administration, an official statement said on Wednesday.
As part of the visit, the committee, led by its chairman and MLA Achumbemo Kikon, inspected the Pfutsero Town Council dumping site to assess the existing waste management system and the environmental challenges associated with solid waste disposal in the area.
During the inspection, discussions were held on the need for scientific waste management practices, proper sanitation measures, and sustainable environmental protection initiatives to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for the public.
The committee also visited the Mountain Radar System site at Glory Peak, where members were briefed on the installation and related infrastructural and environmental considerations.
It also interacted with representatives of the Chakhesang Public Organisation, Chakhesang Mothers’ Association, and Pfutsero Town Mothers’ Association.
Following the site inspections, an interaction meeting was held with the town councillors of the Pfutsero Town Council.
During the meeting, various civic and environmental issues concerning the town were discussed in detail.
The councillors highlighted key challenges faced by the town that require government attention and support.
The committee called for continued cooperation among government departments, local authorities, and the public in addressing environmental concerns and promoting sustainable development practices.
