Nagaland: April 9 declared paid holiday in Chumoukedima for Assam voters

Dimapur: Chumoukedima DC Polan John on Wednesday declared April 9, the polling day for the election to the Assam assembly, as a paid holiday in the district.

The paid holiday will be applicable to all persons who are registered voters in the assembly constituencies of Assam and are employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking, or other establishments and shops within Nagaland, including those working on shift basis, daily wage, or casual employment, the DC said in an order.

However, the notification clarified that the provision will not apply to electors whose absence from duty may cause danger or substantial loss in respect of the employment in which they are engaged.

The DC directed all employers to ensure compliance with the order to enable voters to participate in the democratic process.

The order was issued in accordance with Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, to facilitate eligible voters to exercise their franchise.
