Madhya Pradesh delegation completes cultural, educational exchange tour in Nagaland
Dimapur: A Samagra Shiksha delegation from Madhya Pradesh completed a four-day cultural and educational exchange tour in Nagaland on Thursday.
The visit aimed to foster unity, mutual understanding, and national integration through the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) programme of Samagra Shiksha.
The delegation, consisting of 28 students and seven officials, upon arrival in Kohima on November 24, was provided an orientation on the region’s cultural landscape, educational priorities, and the broader objectives of the EBSB initiative by Samagra Shiksha Nagaland.
This set the tone for an immersive tour designed to give the students firsthand exposure to Nagaland’s heritage, traditions, and academic environment.
The delegation visited several key historical and cultural landmarks that highlight Nagaland’s distinct identity.
One of the major highlights of the tour was the visit to Khonoma village, celebrated as Asia’s first “Green Village,” where students learned about the Angami community’s pioneering conservation practices, traditional agricultural systems, and the village’s remarkable efforts in wildlife protection.
Engaging with local youth leaders and eco-guides helped the visitors understand how indigenous practices continue to shape sustainable living in Nagaland.
The team also explored the Nagaland State Museum, where a wide array of traditional artefacts, tribal costumes, tools, and historical exhibits offered a comprehensive glimpse into the state’s diverse cultural fabric.
This was followed by a visit to the iconic Kohima Cathedral Church, admired for its architectural beauty and tranquil setting, where the students gained insight into the region’s spiritual and cultural evolution.
A key component of the tour was the interaction with local schools on November 26, enabling students from both states to engage in meaningful peer learning.
In addition to cultural and educational exposure, the delegation also visited the Kohima War Cemetery, where they paid respects to the soldiers who lost their lives during the Battle of Kohima.
The solemn visit provided a valuable historical reflection, deepening the students’ understanding of Nagaland’s significance in global wartime history.
Before their departure on Thursday, the team visited the Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre in Dimapur, known for its bamboo innovation initiatives, skill development programmes, and promotion of sustainable livelihoods.
