Central team visits Nagaland to assess flood and landslide damage
Dimapur: A six-member inter-ministerial central team (IMCT) is on a three-day visit to Nagaland from Wednesday to assess the extent of damage caused by recent floods and landslides across districts in the state.
Team leader and Joint Secretary, MHA, Gaya Prasad, said the IMCT's purpose is to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the damages caused by natural calamities like floods and landslides that occurred across Nagaland during the 2025 monsoon season.
Prasad assured that the team will do justice to the people within the rules, regulations, and guidelines, adding that a final report will be submitted to the central government, which will include recommendations for relief and long-term solutions.
On the second day of its visit, Thursday, the IMCT visited Peren district to assess the damage on-site and review relief works to be carried out by the state, as well as the admissibility of additional central assistance.
Joint CEO of the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Johny Ruangmei, accompanied the central team.
At a meeting held at the Peren DC’s conference hall, the team deliberated on various issues regarding landslides caused by flash floods and the necessary actions to be taken.
During the meeting, Peren DC Hiazu Meru highlighted the areas affected by continuous heavy rainfall, which led to landslides in several residential colonies and caused significant damage to buildings and crops in the district.
The DC also informed the team that incessant monsoon rains wreaked havoc on various irrigation structures, including dams, channels, and earthen embankments.
The central team, on Wednesday, along with the district administration, NSDMA, and other officials, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of flood-affected sites in Dimapur and Chumoukedima districts.
The visit aimed to evaluate ground realities, examine infrastructure damage, and gather data for further support and recovery measures.
