Dimapur: The Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PMJUGA) will cover a total of 608 villages from all 16 districts in Nagaland to improve the socio-economic condition of tribal communities, adopting saturation coverage for tribal families in tribal-majority villages and aspirational districts.

Secretary of Tribal Affairs, Angelina Tajen informed this at a virtual briefing on the PMJUGA called by Chief Secretary J Alam with all the line departments at the conference hall of Nagaland civil secretariat in Kohima on Monday evening.

Chairing the meeting virtually from Delhi, Alam said the PMJUGA is a very important project, especially for Nagaland as the total population of the state is tribal concentrated. He urged all line departments to take advantage of the scheme.

Alam also asked all line departments to use social media platforms effectively and spread information regarding the scheme.

He further instructed the directorate of information and public relations to widely disseminate the information amongst the intended beneficiary population, in particular, and the public, in general, to enable maximum awareness generation about it.

Highlighting the overview of the scheme through a PowerPoint presentation, Tajen said the mission would focus on convergence, outreach, and saturating tribal majority villages and tribal villages with specified interventions.

She said the scheme will cover 63000 tribal majority villages in 549 districts and 2740 blocks across 30 states and Union territories.

Tajen said that the PMJUGA is a new scheme approved recently by the Union cabinet under the Ministry of tribal affairs to achieve specific goal-based needs and requirements of tribal areas within the next five years to develop infrastructure, economic empowerment, universalization of access to good education and promote livelihood.

DCs of all districts, along with all the line departments, participated in the meeting via video conferencing.
