Dimapur: Nagaland governor La Ganesan on Friday honoured 36 cadets of Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides (NSBSG) with Governor’s Award at an award ceremony at Dr. Imkongliba Ao hall in Raj Bhavan, Kohima.

The Governor’s Award, also called Rajya Puraskar, is the highest award a scout, guide, rover and ranger can earn at the state level.

In his address, Ganesan expressed his happiness that this year, 18 guides, 14 scouts, two rangers and one rover from Dimapur, Kohima and Wokha districts qualified for the award.

He hoped that the awardees would prepare for the next award, the President’s Award, which is the highest award for a scout, guide, rover and ranger in the country.

Ganesan also congratulated the NSBSG for coming out second in the 7th North East Mini Jamboree held in Sikkim from January 12 to January 16 this year.

“It was heartwarming to learn that Sano Vamuzo, life member and former vice-president, state commissioner (guide) and state organizing commissioner (guide), was awarded the Padmashree which adds a feather to the cap of  the Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides,” he added.

Ganesan called upon the young scouts and guides to emphasise the importance of remembering and honouring the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters.

“As young citizens of this great nation, it is your duty to draw inspiration from these historical events and the individuals who shaped our country’s history.

“Let their struggles and sacrifices fuel your spirit of patriotism. Emulate their selflessness and commitment in your everyday lives. Inculcate a strong sense of national pride, and let that reflect in your actions,” he said.

He reminded the scouts and guides about the ideals of the Bharat Scouts and Guides—duty to God, duty to others, and duty to self— that blend beautifully with the principles of patriotism.

“Let the principles of loyalty, responsibility, and service to society be your guiding stars,” Ganesan said.
