Dimapur: Nagaland was named on the top of the State Food Safety Index 2023-24 among the hilly states in the Northeast.

In the Global Food Regulators Summit 2024 held in New Delhi from September 19 to September 21, the state bagged a special recognition award for its overall performance.

The ratings were given on various parameters of food safety in the State Food Safety Index 2023-24, an official report said on Tuesday.

Among the northeastern hilly states, Nagaland is the lone awardee.

The Food Safety Index is based on the performance of states/UTs on five significant parameters such as human resources and institutional data, compliance, food testing infrastructure and surveillance, training and capacity building, consumer empowerment, and FSSAI initiatives.

The index is a dynamic quantitative and qualitative benchmarking model that provides an objective framework for evaluating food safety across all states/UTs.
