Dimapur: Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati - who arrived at the Dimapur airport in a chartered flight on Thursday afternoon for the Gau Dhwaj Yatra in Nagaland - was not allowed to proceed further from the airport premises by the administration.

Shankaracharya, along with his team, had to return from the airport to his next destination after spending a few minutes at the VIP lounge.

The Nagaland government has denied permission for the yatra scheduled for September 28 in Kohima.

“We explained to him that the government has taken a decision to not allow the yatra and that they had been directed not to allow them outside the airport,” Chumoukedima deputy commissioner Polan John told reporters at the airport.

Though Shankaracharya seemed a little agitated initially and wanted to know why they were not allowed to go out of the airport, DC John said he was told that the government had taken a cabinet decision and they are just implementing it.

“He also understood that,” the DC added.
