Dimapur: Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio flagged off 35 new vehicles, including two mobile forensic investigation vans, and 100 bikes for Nagaland police for quick response to any crimes and for more effective policing in the state at Chumoukedima police complex on Thursday (July 04).

Some of the vehicles are fitted with GPS (Global Positioning System).

Speaking at the flagging-off ceremony, Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio noted that with the growth in state’s economy, especially in urban areas such as Dimapur, there has been a rise in crime rates.

Dimapur being the economic hub of Nagaland, he said, numerous extortion activities and crimes, especially in areas bordering Assam where all kinds of people live, occur in the town.

Saying that the Nagaland government’s topmost concern is Dimapur and its surrounding areas where extortion activities are very high, Rio said: “If we can check crimes in Dimapur, the whole state will be a safer place.”

He expressed concern over the safety and security of the people of Nagaland, particularly the business community.

Rio asked the Nagaland police to be transparent, careful, and discreet in discharging their duties to do justice to the people.

He added that the Nagaland police for doing their duty to the best of their abilities, saying their effectiveness has put a check on crimes in the state.

Rio also wanted the common people to come forward to support the police to make policing in the state more effective.

He hoped that with the addition of the new vehicles, the state police would achieve higher goals and win the confidence of the people.

Nagaland deputy chief minister Y Patton, who also holds the home portfolio and was present on the occasion, said the new vehicles are to fortify the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the citizens.

“These vehicles symbolise our dedication to respond swiftly and effectively to the needs of the people,” he said, adding they are an essential resource that will enhance operational capabilities of the police, particularly in areas where mobility is crucial for timely intervention.

Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma said the addition of new vehicles is a momentous achievement for the state police as they will enhance the operational capacities of the law enforcement agency.
