Nagaland: NSCN-K (Khango) under fire for death threat, ceasefire body warns
Guwahati: The Ceasefire Monitoring Group/Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFMG/CFSB) has issued a stern warning to the NSCN-K (Khango) following allegations of the group issuing a death threat to a businessman in Nagaland.
Lt Gen (Retd) Amarjeet Singh Bedi, chairman of the CFMG/CFSB, said on Saturday that the group had violated ceasefire ground rules (CFGR) by issuing the threat to the proprietor of KKB Rülhou.
While the insurgent has denied issuing a death threat, claiming it was a misunderstanding, the CFMG/CFSB has taken a serious view of the matter.
Bedi emphasized that the ceasefire agreement with various Naga groups, including the NSCN-K (Khango), was aimed at creating a conducive environment for peace talks and resolving the Naga issue. He make it clear that any violation of the CFGR would not be tolerated.
He stated that certain support mechanisms, such as designated camps, ceasefire identity cards, and offices, had been established to facilitate the administrative requirements of the ceasefire and ensure its smooth operation.
“These facilities are in no way meant to cause inconvenience to the common public as also in no way accord immunity to any Group to indulge in violations of Ceasefire Ground Rules or unlawful activities,” chairman Bedi clarified.
The CFMG/CFSB has initiated an investigation into the matter and has urged the public to report any such incidents. The chairman assured that the guilty party would be dealt with according to law.
The NSCN-K (Khango) has assured the CFMG/CFSB of its commitment to the ceasefire agreement and has promised to resolve the issue amicably.
