Guwahati: The National Highway-29 (NH-29) connecting Nagaland’s capital Kohima and the state’s commercial hub Dimapur reopened fully for traffic on Tuesday (September 3, 2024) after a partial closure for several days owing to a landslide near Kohima district’s Dzudza Bridge.

On Tuesday, a one-way traffic flow was restored for the vehicles travelling to and from Kohima. However, the commuters were informed of expecting further delays on the both-way restoration of the highway.

Though a portion of the highway was reopened, the Kohima district administration advised the commuters to be cautious while driving through the affected stretch as the condition still remained unpredictable.

Landslides following heavy rainfall had blocked the vital highway on August 19. The Kohima district administration soon issued a travel advisory directing the Kohima and Dimapur residents to take alternative routes.

The NH-29 is not only the lifeline of Kohima but also neighbouring Manipur as it is one of the two roads connecting the state to the rest of the country.
