New Delhi: Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir has called for immediate implementation of Naga political solution.

In his recent address in the Parliament, Jamir highlighted the two agreements for Naga political solutions signed with the Government of India (GoI) in 2015 and 2017.

He referred to the “Framework Agreement” signed on August 03, 2015, between GoI and NSCN-IM, and the “Agreed Position” signed on November 17, 2017, with the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs).

Jamir expressed frustration over the delay in the implementation of these agreements, noting that despite the GoI announcing on October 31, 2019, that the Naga peace talks were successfully completed, there has been no progress.

Addressing the 5th session of the 13th Nagaland legislative assembly on January 17, 2020, the then Nagaland governor, RN Ravi, announced that the Naga political issue was resolved, yet implementation of solution is still awaited.

Jamir criticised the continued enforcement of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Nagaland, stating that the ceasefire monitoring is ineffective.

He asserted that people are being “killed in daylight” while “anti-social elements” are collecting ‘taxes’, mentioning that there are 24 Naga Political Groups (NPGs) in Nagaland.

In his plea, Jamir urged the Speaker to communicate to the union home ministry the urgent need for the immediate implementation of the Naga political solutions.
