Nagaland government urges CSOs to be patient on Free Movement Regime issue

KOHIMA: The Nagaland government has urged the civil society organisations (CSOs) in the state to remain patient on the free movement regime (FMR) issue.

Speaking on the matter, Nagaland minister and government spokesperson KG Kenye said that the state assembly has passed a resolution urging the central government to reconsider its decision to scrap the free movement regime (FMR).

Briefing the media, Kenye addressed the concerns of those affected by the cessation of the FMR, particularly residents along the international border.

“The issue has been thoroughly debated in the assembly, and the state assembly has passed a resolution asking the Government of India to review the decision to scrap the FMR,” he stated.

He assured that the Nagaland government is actively engaging with the central government on the FMR issue.

“Since the state government is taking all necessary action with the government of India, and the government of India has assured to reconsider the issue, we request NGOs to be patient until a considered decision is made,” Kenye added.

Additionally, Kenye announced the establishment of a Political Affairs Committee (PAC) to address the ongoing Naga political issue.

He called on all political parties to form Political Consultative Committees (PCCs) to support the PAC in engaging with stakeholders and working towards a resolution.
