Dimapur: Dimapur commissioner of police and district magistrate Kevithuto Sophie on Thursday prohibited the Gau Dhwaj Yatra in three districts of Nagaland - Dimapur, Chumoukidema and Niuland.

These three districts come under the jurisdiction of the Dimapur police commissionerate.

In an order, Sophie said in pursuance of the state government’s directive dated September 12, 2024, citing concerns over potential disturbances to public order, over the yatra, the prohibition has been further reinforced by the provisions contained in para (1) (a) (i) of Article 371(A) of the Constitution of India, which grants special safeguards to Nagaland, particularly in matters related to religious and social practices.
