Dimapur: The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) reminded the Nagaland government to give its comments on the highlights of the draft memorandum of settlement on Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT).

The Nagaland government’s comments are needed to make way for the tripartite talks between the Centre, state government, and ENPO on the FNT issue at the earliest, a statement issued by the ENPO said on Saturday.

The ENPO has been demanding FNT carved out of Nagaland, citing lack of development and negligence by the successive state governments in eastern Nagaland.

Expressing faith in the 14th Nagaland Assembly under the leadership of Neiphiu Rio, the ENPO hoped that the prayers, wishes and sentiments of the people of eastern Nagaland would not be left unheeded but would be respected and addressed without further delay.

The ENPO pointed out that it had submitted a letter requesting the state government to give its comments on the highlights of the draft memorandum of settlement on FNT during the official meeting of its executives with CM Rio on August 23, 2024 in Kohima.

It added that it again served a reminder note on September 14 appealing the state government to be more serious in its approach and to uphold the spirit of collective responsibility as envisaged in Article 164 (2) of the Constitution of India.

According to earlier reports, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had handed over the highlights of the draft memorandum of settlement for FNT to the state government in December 2023.

The state government was supposed to give its comments before December 31, 2023.

Meanwhile, the ENPO said a meeting of its executives in Dimapur on September 17 unanimously resolved that any print media house, scholars, writers, YouTubers, individuals or groups wishing to telecast, broadcast or make any press statement or write any article on ENPO/FNT issues “shall do so only with the prior approval from the ENPO office.”
