Guwahati: Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president and Lok Sabha candidate S. Supongmeren Jamir made strong allegations against the BJP-led NDA government, accusing it of undermining secularism in the nation.

During his candidature declaration and campaign kick-off event at Town Hall, organized by the Mokokchung District Congress Committee (MDCC) on Saturday, Jamir claimed that the BJP government was actively targeting the Christian faith and other minorities in India.

He pointed to what he described as the "forceful replacement" of religious holidays and the renaming of places and institutions on flimsy pretexts as evidence.

Jamir urged the electorate to vote for him to safeguard secularism and effect change in the country. He emphasized that the forthcoming parliamentary election was not merely about political policies but about defending faith and ideology.

Expressing concern, Jamir asserted that the BJP-led NDA government, along with its allies including the PDA government of Nagaland, posed a threat to the faith, traditions, and customs of minorities, gradually eroding them.

The event saw short speeches delivered by former MLA Toshipokba, NPCC Mokokchung in-charge S. Moa Imchen, NPCC Public Grievances Department co-chairman Meshenlo Kath, NPCC Secretary Imkongmeren Jamir, and Imli Jamir.

The proceedings were chaired by DCC Vice-President Lanusanen, with the welcome address delivered by DCC President Watimongba Aier. Baptist Church Pastor Teyalo Seb offered the invocation.
