Lalpianfela said that Lalchhandami has crossed 67 years as per government and church records.

Mizo Student Union (MSU), one of the apex student bodies in the state, also alleged that Lalchhandami was illegally appointed despite crossing the age limit.

As per a reply sought under the Right to Information Act, Lalchhandami retired on superannuation from government service on March 31, 2016, the organisation said.

Meanwhile, social welfare minister Lalrinpuii defended the government over the appointment of Lalchhandami stating that there is no any irregularity from the government side.

As per the birth certificate submitted by Lalchhandami, she was born in 1960, she said.

The government accepted the birth certificate and accordingly, Lalchhandami can work as chairperson for MSCW, Lalrinpuii said.
