Mizoram’s first gas pipeline from Tripura progresses, 45% completed
Aizawl: Installation of a natural gas pipeline between Tripura and Mizoram is in progress, with 45 per cent of the project completed so far, officials said on Thursday.
Officials of Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGCL), which is executing the project, said that the 119.5 km pipeline, implemented under the North East Natural Gas Pipeline Grid, is expected to be completed by December 2027.
They said that the Tripura-Mizoram gas pipeline originates from the Panisagar receiving terminal in Tripura and passes through Kanhmun, Zawlnuam, Kawrthah, Tuidam, and Darlak before reaching near Mamit in Mizoram.
From there, it will proceed towards Lengte and terminate at the proposed Sihhmui receiving terminal, about 21 km from Aizawl.
From the Sihhmui receiving terminal, household gas connections within Aizawl city will be undertaken by Tripura Natural Gas Corporation Limited (TNGCL), the IGCL officials said.
Officials noted that 45 per cent of the project has been completed so far.
Officials of the state Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) department said that the project, once completed, will facilitate the first gas pipeline connection in Mizoram, particularly for residents of Aizawl, and will be extended to other parts of the state in a phased manner.
Meanwhile, state Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister B. Lalchhanzova visited Tripura's capital, Agartala, and inspected the ongoing gas pipeline project on Wednesday, an official statement said.
The minister interacted with officials of TNGCL and visited the centre of PRAN Beverages (India) Pvt. Ltd, Tripura Industrial Growth Centre, CNG station, and ONGC centre during his visit, it added.
He also visited Subham Solitaire, a world-class residential complex in Agartala, where about 330 households have installed gas pipeline connections, the statement said.
During a meeting with TNGCL officials, Lalchhanzova said the project, once completed, will be a milestone for Mizoram as it will provide adequate gas supply to residents at more affordable prices.
Apart from domestic consumption, it will also be effectively used for commercial, industrial, transport, and other purposes, he added.
The minister expressed hope that the project, once completed, will generate employment and facilitate the establishment of major industries in the state.
He urged both IGCL and TNGCL officials to execute the project diligently and with due attention to ensure its completion within the stipulated time frame.
