Mizoram University signs MoU with Institute of Chin Affairs for academic collaboration
Aizawl: Mizoram University (MZU) and the Institute of Chin Affairs have recently signed a pact to facilitate academic collaboration between the two institutions, authorities of MZU said on Tuesday.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by MZU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka and Institute of Chin Affairs Deputy Executive Director Mai Lucy Mawi at the Vice-Chancellor’s chamber on December 5, they said.
The MoU highlights key areas of cooperation between the two institutions, including the introduction of a diploma course in spoken Burmese, admission of students from Myanmar to Mizoram University, and research collaboration, they said.
Dr. B. Lalzarliana, Coordinator of the Burmese Language Course at Mizoram University, and Salai Za Lian Pum, Humanitarian Coordinator at the Institute of Chin Affairs, represented their respective institutions during the signing ceremony, they said.
The partnership is expected to strengthen academic ties, promote cultural exchange, and provide students with opportunities to learn the Burmese language while engaging in collaborative research projects, they added.
Mizoram currently provides shelter to over 31,000 refugees from Myanmar, primarily from the Chin state. Officials said that hundreds of refugee students from the neighbouring country are currently studying in schools across the state.
