Aizawl: More than 1,000 non-tribals or outsiders were arrested in Mizoram for violating the provision of Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 and entering the northeastern state without a valid Inner Line Permit (ILP) during a state-wide operation conducted jointly by Mizoram police and Young Mizo Association (YMA), Central YMA said in a statement.

The statement said that a massive ILP drive was carried out on Tuesday night across the state by the state police and volunteers of YMA, the largest civil society organisation in the state.

The organisation also urged construction companies and contractors to ensure that their labourers, who are non-tribal, possess valid travel documents before they enter Mizoram.

The ILP, a provision of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation of 1873, is an official travel document issued to Indian citizens for entry into protected areas, including Mizoram.
