Aizawl: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has attached two additional coaches to the Sairang-Guwahati train, a key link for Mizoram, as part of an emergency capacity boost following widespread flight cancellations by IndiGo, NFR officials said on Sunday.

The NFR will also operate two special trains this week: one between Nagaland's Dimapur and Sairang, and another on the Guwahati-Sairang route, they said.

Officials said that two additional coaches (AC and sleeper) were attached to the Guwahati-Sairang Express from Saturday to ease the inconvenience faced by commuters due to widespread flight cancellations.

The arrangement is temporary, as it is part of an emergency capacity boost during the flight crisis, they added.

The NFR will also operate 14-coach special trains between Dimapur and Sairang on Thursday, and another special train on the Sairang-Guwahati route on Friday, they said.

They expressed hope that the arrangement would help manage the increasing number of visitors in Mizoram, Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland during winter.
