Mizoram: MNF leader Lalruatkima calls Aizawl ‘Jerusalem’, predicts party's return in 2028
Aizawl: Mizo National Front (MNF) leader and former minister Lalruatkima on Tuesday declared that the MNF remains the only party capable of governing Aizawl, which he described as the “Jerusalem” of the Mizo people (Zofate).
Addressing a party function in Aizawl's Tuikual locality, Lalruatkima said that the MNF has accomplished developmental works for Aizawl and Mizoram, which he described as grand and truly impressive.
"The MNF, which fights steadfastly 'for God and our land' and dares to take responsibility for the welfare of this land and its people, is the best choice for Aizawl and Zoram," the former Rural Development Minister said.
He added that the people are aware of the truth regarding the lies told by those who accused the MNF of doing nothing.
Lalruatkima further predicted a return to power for the party in the next assembly polls in 2028, citing public trust and divine grace.
"By the grace of God and the people, the MNF will return to power in 2028, and we will continue to fight for the Mizo sub-nation, this land, and our religion," he said.
Touting the strength of the MNF’s bench for the upcoming municipal polls, Lalruatkima claimed that their candidates outclass those of rival parties.
He said that among the 19 candidates nominated by the MNF are four sitting corporators, a retired secretary to the state government, prominent church leaders, and leaders of the Young Mizo Association (YMA).
Polling for the 19-member Aizawl Municipal Council (AMC) will be held on April 21, and counting of votes will take place on April 27.
A total of 68 candidates, including 28 women, are in the fray for the upcoming civic polls.
Apart from the MNF, the ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) and Congress have fielded 19 candidates each, while the BJP has nominated 11 candidates.
Over 2.37 lakh electors, including 1.28 lakh female voters, are eligible to exercise their franchise in the AMC polls.
