AIZAWL: Mizoram has achieved a remarkable milestone, recording a substantial 52 percent growth in Goods & Services Tax (GST) collections in April.

This surge marks the highest proportion of growth among all Northeast states.

According to data released by the union finance ministry, Mizoram collected Rs 108 crore in GST revenue in April, compared to Rs 71 crore collected during the same period in 2023.

However, the story is mixed for other Northeast states, with Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Meghalaya experiencing negative growth in GST collections during the same month.

Arunachal Pradesh saw the most significant decline, with a negative growth rate of 16 percent, followed by Sikkim at 5 percent, Nagaland at 3 percent, and Meghalaya at 2 percent.

In April 2023, Arunachal Pradesh's GST collections stood at Rs 238 crore, which decreased to Rs 200 crore in April 2024.

On the brighter side, Assam, Tripura, and Manipur reported positive growth in GST collections for April compared to the previous year.

Assam's GST revenue increased from Rs 1513 crore in April 2023 to Rs 1895 crore in April 2024, marking a growth of 25 percent.

Similarly, Tripura witnessed a 20 percent growth, with GST collections totalling Rs 161 crore in April this year compared to Rs 133 crore in April 2023.

Manipur also saw a 15 percent increase, with GST collections amounting to Rs 104 crore in April 2024, up from Rs 91 crore in April last year.
