Aizawl: The Mizoram government has urged the Centre to establish Mizo territorial force, an official said on Monday.

During his meeting with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently, Chief Minister Lalduhoma urged him to establish Mizo territorial battalions consisting of only Mizo youths, the official said.

Singh on his part told the chief minister that he will put up the matter in the first meeting of Cabinet Committee on Security, he said.

Earlier, the Mizoram government had urged the Centre to raise scout battalions for Mizoram under the Defence Ministry, the official said.

Later, the government opted for Mizo territorial battalion as authorities in the defence ministry suggested it to seek permission for territorial battalions citing that scout battalions are usually deployed in the Indo-China border, he said.
