Mizoram government vows no increase in power tariffs for next five years
AIZAWL: The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government in Mizoram has assured the state assembly that power tariffs will remain unchanged for the next five years.
This assurance was given by Mizoram power minister F Rodingliana during an assembly session on Wednesday (February 28).
Highlighting the Mizoram government's commitment to enhancing power generation, Rodingliana emphasized ongoing efforts in this direction.
“There are no plans to revise power tariffs for consumers during the tenure of the current Mizoram government,” he affirmed.
The ZPM assumed power in December last year, aiming to address various issues including power supply concerns.

Updating on the Mizoram’s power infrastructure, the minister disclosed that Mizoram presently operates 15 small hydroelectric projects, collectively yielding 38.55 MW of power.
However, he noted that power generation is subject to weather conditions.
To meet the state's power demands, Mizoram expends Rs 33-37 crore monthly on procuring power from external sources, necessitated by the requirement of 156 MW during peak hours.
In a bid to bolster power generation capacity, the Mizoram government has plans for three hydel electric projects capable of generating 294 MW collectively.
Additionally, four solar power plants, with a combined capacity of 45 MW, are also in the pipeline.
