Mizoram: Exotic birds & animals rescued in Champhai

AIZAWL: A considerable number of exotic birds and animals have been rescued in Champhai district of Mizoram.

The seizure of the exotic birds and animals was made by the Mizoram police, in a joint operation with the forest department in Chmaphai.

A total of 49 exotic animals and birds were rescued and seized in Champhai district of Mizoram.

The rescued exotic birds and animals were suspected to have been smuggled from Myanmar.

The rescued animals and birds are estimated to value around Rs 68.40 lakh in international black markets.

The exotic animals and birds kept in iron cages and plastic baskets.

Three persons have been arrested in connection with the rescue and seizure of the exotic animals and birds.

Meanwhile, the accused have been handed over to the forest department in Champhai district of Mizoram for further legal proceedings.

 The arrested persons have been identified as: Vachonia, Vanlalthlana and Zemabawk.

The rescued animals include: Solomon Cockatoo – 10 nos, Posque’s Parrot – 2 nos, Turtle – 9 nos, Snake – 10 nos, Lizard – 16 nos and Marmoset Monkey – 2 nos.
