Aizawl: A special court in Aizawl, Mizoram, convicted 23 people on Friday for their involvement in a land scam.

The individuals, hailing from Lawngtlai district, were found guilty of creating 35 fake land settlement certificates (LSCs) to receive compensation from the government. This scheme involved cheating authorities and exploiting their official positions.

The court presided over by special judge HTC Lalrinchhana, convicted the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA).

These sections dealt with offences like cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy, alongside misuse of power by public servants.

The convicted individuals, who were previously released on bail, have been remanded to judicial custody.

They will be brought back before the court on Monday when Judge Lalrinchhana will pronounce the quantum of punishment.
