Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Wednesday said the state should prioritise progress in governance and the delivery system in order to participate in the Centre's vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047 under the Viksit Bharat mission.

He said focus should be given to productive sectors like agriculture and allied activities, industries, tourism, and the digital economy to improve governance and the delivery system, which in turn will generate income and employment opportunities for the youth.

"Mizoram has a high responsibility and a long way to go in India's Viksit Bharat vision to transform the country into a developed nation by 2047. Priority should be given to governance and delivery growth, and to achieve this, focus should be placed on productive sectors," Lalduhoma said while addressing the “Transformed Mizoram Vision 2047 Roadmap Workshop” here.

He added that a small hilly state with fragile ecology and limited resources like Mizoram must pursue deliberate and long-term choices that create quality jobs, higher-income farm and enterprise opportunities, robust connectivity, strong human capital, and climate-resilient, value-based growth.

Citing that development is neither accidental nor spontaneous, the Chief Minister said it is earned through a far-sighted vision by the government and the people.

"Our youth should be nurtured with quality education to provide them with innovative and technological skills, ensuring they get suitable jobs across the country and abroad," he said.

Emphasising the importance of adhering to faith and the Mizo code of ethics, Lalduhoma said development should not dilute the Mizo religion, tradition, culture, or their charismatic ethics such as Tlawmngaihna (selfless service), which form the foundation of Mizo identity.

"Our progress should place us on par with others. It should strengthen the Mizo identity," the first-time Chief Minister said.

Organised by the State Institute for Transformation (SIT) of the state's Planning & Programme Implementation department as part of NITI Aayog’s State Support Mission, the day-long workshop provided a common platform for departments to present and discuss their roadmaps around four catalytic pillars: growth drivers, capital investment sectors, social development enablers, and anchors of transformation.

The entire day was devoted to technical sessions, inter-departmental discussions, and the identification of priority reforms and flagship initiatives up to 2047.

According to officials, the Transformed Mizoram Vision 2047 envisages a structural shift to a services- and innovation-led economy, with GSDP rising from about Rs. 35,578.84 crore in 2023–24 to around Rs. 25 lakh crore by 2047, at an average annual growth of about 20.3 per cent, and a projected per capita income of roughly Rs. 16,00,000.

SIT Mizoram, through its Programme Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation (PIME) unit, will consolidate the workshop outcomes into a draft vision document that will guide future annual plans, departmental strategies, and performance monitoring systems, officials said.
