Mizoram: Campaigning for Sinlung Hills Council election concludes
AIZAWL: The campaigning for the Sinlung Hills Council (SHC) election in Mizoram ended on Sunday with elections scheduled for Tuesday.
Although the deadline for the campaign ended on Sunday, political parties held functions to mark the closure of the campaign on Saturday.
The ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) and Hmar People's Convention (HPC) combine held campaign closing functions in all the 12 constituencies in the SHC area with ministers, MLAs and senior party leaders addressing rallies on Saturday.
Addressing a rally at Saipum near the Assam border on Saturday, ZPM president Lalliansawta said that the new dawn of development will usher in the SHC area, which was called the dark area (under-developed), if the ZPM comes to power.

He blamed the previous governments for allegedly ignoring the area as developments have been at a snail's pace.
The ZPM president claimed that the party has been making massive efforts to be a channel of blessing for the people of SHC.
Addressing a campaign closing function at Phuaibuang in the Saitual district near the Manipur border, former minister and Mizo National Front (MNF) leader Lalruatkima accused ministers and ZPM legislators of not honouring democracy during their campaign.

He alleged that some ministers had intimidated the people to the extent that they would exercise restraint in terms of development if the ZPM party was not voted to power in the upcoming council polls.
During his campaign tour to four villages on Saturday, Congress senior vice president Lalnunmawia Chuaungo claimed that SHC was created during the erstwhile Congress government.
He said it is imperative that Congress comes to power in the council to take care of it.
Polling for the 12-member SHC will be held on November 5, in which 23,789 voters, including 11,914 female voters, will decide the fate of 49 candidates.
Counting of votes will be undertaken as soon as voting is over and all ballot boxes reach constituency headquarters on November 5.
