AIZAWL: A fast track court in Kolasib, Mizoram has recently sentenced a 57-year-old  man to undergo imprisonment of 20 years for raping a minor, court officials said on Wednesday.

The judge of the fast track court R. Vanlalena convicted K. Rothangliana, a resident of Bairabi town on the Mizoram-Assam border under section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and sentenced him to undergo 20 years imprisonment, they said.

The fast track court also slapped a fine of Rs. 7,000 against the convict and on default, he will undergo an additional three months imprisonment.

Rothangliana was arrested in May 2022 for raping a six-year-old girl.

Police said that the accused took away the girl while she was picking fruits with her friends and raped her.

The girl reported the incident to her father, following which the relatives filed an FIR leading to the arrest of Rothangliana, they said.
